From 3000 children in 1999 in Mumbai, Magic Bus has transformed over one million children and young people living in poverty, taking them from a childhood full of challenges to a life with meaningful livelihoods. Magic Bus is one of the largest poverty alleviation programs in India, impacting 3,75,000 children and young people in 22 states and 80 districts of India in FY 18-19. We deliver our sports activity-based sessions in close to 1961 communities and 930 schools in both urban slum clusters and remote rural areas. Since the Livelihood programme began in 2015, we have 42 Livelihood centers. They have trained 28,000 youth and placed more than 70% youth in jobs in the organized sector, career-based training or get self-employed, with an average salary of INR 10,287. Magic Bus also works in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar with 6000 children, in 40 communities and 31 schools with 81 Community Coordinators.

The Magic Bus Childhood to Livelihood programme uses the playground as its primary learning space where girls and boys have an equal opportunity to participate in the session. It carries out sports activity based sessions, working with children over a 7 year continuum starting age 12, to enable their participation in school and to develop the critical soft skills required to succeed in the workplace. As a result, children become confident and resilient. Children use the life skills they adopt, to fend off destabilizers such as child marriage and child labor that are deterrents to them completing their secondary education.  The youth-centered Livelihood programme connects the aspirations and potential of young people to available market opportunities. Magic Bus builds their employability skills and maps their job potential based on individual strengths and mobility. Magic Bus also mobilizes the entire ecosystem of the child; her parents, school teachers, local leaders and School Management Committees to ensure the change is transformational and sustainable, thus helping her break out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
